“Wall of Honor”
Last summer, we announced that we would be embarking on a Taylor Police
Department “Wall of Honor” to be installed behind our Police Statue in
front of the Police Station. The Wall of Honor is to be a memorial wall
in tribute of our fallen officers Cpl. Matthew Edwards and Auxiliary Lt.
Dan Kromer, who were killed in 2010 less than two months apart. Cpl.
Edwards was shot responding to a domestic violence and Auxiliary Lt.
Kromer was struck by a vehicle on I-94 while assisting a motorist. Plans
are underway for a large black granite wall measuring 8 feet tall and 5
feet wide. There will be a blue line running behind our Department’s
emblem. The Wall will list the names of Cpl. Edwards and Auxiliary Lt.
Kromer. We plan a special unveiling ceremony of the TPD “Wall of Honor”
on the second anniversary of Cpl. Matthew Edwards death on July 23,
2012. The Taylor Fraternal Order of Police has enough funds to get the
project off the ground, but more is needed. We are seeking the
community’s involvement to help make this a proper and special memorial.
As we did with “The Protector” statue, we have a “Buy-a-Brick” program
offered to anyone wishing to make a donation. All checks can be written
to the Taylor Police Department DARE "Statue Fund" to make a donation.
The custom bricks will be inscribed with your family name and will be
placed near the base of the statue. The bricks will be added to the
existing bricks surrounding the statue. Also, the names of all corporate
or private donors giving $1,000 or more will have their names engraved
as major contributors on the back of the Wall of Honor. The Wall of
Honor is visible from all sides. These donors will be considered the
“Blue Knight” level of sponsorship. Also, in an effort to reciprocate to
the community, TPD will join with Downriver Fish & Loaves to
sponsor a Taylor Police Fallen Officers Food Drive from July 16 to 30.
There will be several drop off sites throughout the community including
the Police Station. On behalf of the Taylor Fraternal Order of Police, I
would like to thank you for your continued support. If you would like
to make a financial donation or interested in purchasing a brick, please
contact Mary at 734-374-1531 or msclabassi@ci.taylor.mi.us.
