  1. Plarning - Mats for the Needy

    Plarning is making yarn from out of plastic strips (plarn) cut from grocery bags. The strips are crocheted into 3'x6' mats that are distributed to the homeless. The mats are lightweight, washable, bug resistant and also benefit our environment by putting the plastic bags to good use instead of our landfills. Approximately 700-1000 bags are used to complete one mat. This group meets every Wednesday from 9:30 - 11:30 am. We always need volunteers to sort, cut or crochet. If this interests you, why not join in and help provide a means for a needy cause and pass a good deed forward. We'd love to have you!

  2. World Tai Chi & Qigong Day 2019

    Organized by instructor Bob Correll of Celestial Crane Taijiquan & Qigong, World T'ai Chi & Qigong Day will be celebrated at the Ford Senior Center. T'ai and Qigong practitioners from local programs at senior centers, recreation departments, and adult education programs in various cities will meet to exercise and demonstrate their art. Anyone interested in learning more about T'ai Chi and Qigong is urged to attend. One may participate or merely watch. Printed information will be provided.

My Gentle Yoga class will also help improve flexibility by working all the muscles and connective tissues in your body. There will be meditation, warm up with stretching many of your muscle groups, postures that are designed to increase your strength and balance and a cool down that will leave you feeling refreshed! Although this will be a chair based and standing posture class, most of the postures can be practiced in the chair.

Hospice of Michigan's presentation at the senior center will define palliative care, help you understand how you or your loved one may benefit from it and introduce you to Arbor Palliative Care, an in-home consultative palliative care service.

    Joe from JDFitness is the instructor. This class focuses on strengthening the muscles and tendons of the entire body to improve seniors' overall ability to perform and enjoy every day activities. Participants will learn, practice and perform a wide variety of exercise techniques utilizing free weights, resistance bands, isometrics and calisthenics. Working out with resistance of any kind will lead to stronger bones, better flexibility and increased strength that add yet another layer of well being into your life.
