Water main repairs scheduled around Quest Academy

Due to water main work, there will be closures and detours around Quest Academy through November 18. Quest is located at 12745 Van Born Road, west of Telegraph.

In following through on the City of Taylor’s planning efforts to maintain and improve City infrastructure, water mains within this area are scheduled to be replaced with the 2016 City of Taylor Water Main Rehabilitation Program. The work will primarily involve a widely-used construction operation known as pipe-bursting, a trenchless method, whereby the existing main will be replaced with a new main in the same location.  In addition, there are a few locations where a new main will be placed through another trenchless method known as directional drilling.

The City of Taylor has contracted with Bidigare Contractors, Inc. to perform the water main construction project.  Wade Trim Associates, Inc., the Consulting Engineer for this Project, will be providing construction inspection oversight and construction engineering assistance.

Water main improvements on Troy and Westlake from Van Born south will begin this week (October 31) and continue for approximately three weeks. While work is being performed on Troy and Westlake the streets will be closed to traffic. There will be barricaded, but open, construction pits at intersections and along the streets during construction as well as construction equipment moving up and down the streets.

Additionally, access to Troy Street at Avalon from Quest Academy will be closed for approximately two weeks while the new water main and services are installed and restoration completed. Following completion of the water main and services there will be intermittent closures as restoration activities take place. During this work on Troy and Westlake, it will not be safe to park to pick up students. The entrance to the Academy off of Van Born and the parking should be utilized during the construction operations.

We encourage you to call our engineering consultant, Wade Trim, with all construction-related questions or concerns. You can call them at (734) 947-9700. Please ask the operator to direct you to the Construction Department and indicate that you are calling regarding the City of Taylor 2016 Water Main Rehabilitation Program.  If you feel that your problem has not been resolved, please feel free to call Mr. Greg Mayhew, City Engineer, at (734) 374-1473, or Mr. Dennis McDermott at (734) 374-1451.

SAFETY IS IMPORTANT!  PLEASE BE READY TO USE CAUTION WHEN WALKING, JOGGING, BIKING OR DRIVING IN OR NEAR THE CONSTRUCTION AREA.  IF YOU SEE SOMEONE DOING SOMETHING UNSAFE, CONTACT US SO THAT WE CAN GET IT ADDRESSED.
