Between 75 and 90 percent of all residential fires could be prevented by the combination of a smoke detector and a residential sprinkler system. Eighty percent of fire deaths happen in homes, while 50 percent of fires occur in locations without a working smoke detector. Sixth to 70 percent of fire are intentionally stared by juveniles, and three children die daily due to playing with lighters and/or matches.
The fire department suggests that families should always have an evacuation plan.
