CRUZE FOR A CAUSE HURRICANES_edited-1

General Manager Mark Montante of Taylor Chevrolet partnered with the City of Taylor during its September "Cruze for a Cause" campaign. As a result, $1,195 was donated Tuesday to the American Red Cross to aid hurricane relief efforts.

Montante, along with Mayor Rick Sollars, handed off the check to a representative of the Red Cross during Tuesday night's (October 17) City Council meeting.

After Hurricane Harvey devastated Texas and as Hurricane Irma headed for Florida, Taylor Chevrolet and the City of Taylor teamed up to raise money for the Red Cross during a September "Cruze in for a Cause" event. Cruze for a Cause usually directly benefits local emergency responders like police and fire departments, but Montante and Mayor Sollars agreed that any funds raised in this year's event would be best used by an organization like the Red Cross, given the problems many people are facing because of natural disasters. Later, Hurricane Maria devastated Puerto Rico.

During the "Cruze," the Taylor Police and Taylor Fire departments were in attendance. CBS 98.7 AMP Radio also participated, along with Krystal, the Taylor Chevrolet Girl.

Simultaneously, Taylor Chevrolet employees sought drivers to take the "Metro Detroit Chevy Dealers Safe Driver's Pledge." They not only signed up drivers during the "Cruze" event, but also at the Rockin' Country Music Festival in Heritage Park. As a result of the campaign, 200 drivers took the pledge, which states:

  • To stay hands free when making calls
  • To never text and drive
  • To never post to Facebook or other social media while driving
  • To speak out as a passenger if the driver of the vehicle is distracted
  • To encourage friends and family to drive phone free.

According to the Michigan State Police, there were 7,516 crashes in 2015 alone involving distracted drivers. Taylor Chevy is hoping that the "pledge" helps alleviate that problem.
