Wayne County recently announced 13 projects during its December CMAQ (Congestion, Mitigation and Air Quality), Safety and TAP (Transportation Alternative Program) awards period, and two of those projects will take place in Taylor.
The county will improve signals and add left-turn phasing at Ecorse and Pelham roads, along with the intersection of Van Born and Beech Daly roads. The Ecorse-Pelham intersection will cost nearly $203,000; the Van Born-Beech Daly project will cost nearly $187,000. Each of these projects will create the "modern left turn" signaling (left turns first) that drivers currently see at intersections like Northline and Pardee. Both were awarded in the safety category.
"These are two intersections that we've talked about for a lengthy period of time, and we are very happy that the work has been awarded," Mayor Rick Sollars said. "Both of these intersections need to be modernized and improved."
Other safety-related intersection work will take place at Eureka and Dix Toledo, and Northline Road at Hannan.
