AARP and Community Bowling Centers form partnership
AARP and Community Bowling Centers -- which include Skore Lanes of Taylor -- have announced a new partnership designed to provide fun, healthy activities in a smoke-free environment and discounts for the new 50+ generation.
The collaborative pilot program is designed to provide both local discounts and healthy opportunities for Michigan AARP members. Three special programs have been designed for all interest levels, including:
- AARP “VIB” Freebie: Bowl two games of open bowling and get the third game free.
- Sample the Fun: Try the first week free of any new or additional bowling club. No obligation to join.
- AARP Learn to Bowl Club: Four sessions with one hour of instruction and one hour of practice included in each session. The program cost is only $20 per person. At the end of the program, each participant receives a “certificate of completion” and 10 free games. Participants also will be encouraged to use their “Sample the Fun” benefit and try the first week free of a new or additional bowling club. Learn to Bowl programs begin the week of September 20 and will be offered at additional times throughout the year.
“Bowling is a wonderful recreation opportunity for seniors," said Eunice Smith, an active bowler and AARP volunteer from Detroit. "It’s very relaxing and it’s a nice activity where seniors can gather.”
Smith, 78 years old, has been a bowler for more than 41 years and has bowled in senior leagues for the past 14 years.
“The partnership also offers seniors a chance to support local businesses and engage in a healthy activity at a special AARP discounted rate," she added.
Roger Philipi, Community Bowling Centers director of operations and guest happiness, said “It will be exciting to have so many new and returning bowlers coming to our centers. We have opportunities for all levels of skill and interest. This is a true win-win-win partnership for us, AARP and AARP members.”
