American Pie hosts fund-raiser for family of Taylor police Cpl. Matthew Edwards
The American Pie restaurant in Taylor will remember police Cpl. Matthew Edwards through a day that will raise funds for the late police officer's family.
American Pie, located at 114680 Pardee Road, will donate 20 percent of the sales from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday, August 3, to the Cpl. Matthew Edwards Memorial Fund. In addition, American Pie employees will donate all of the tips they earn that day.
Cpl. Edwards was shot and killed July 23 while responding to a reported breaking and entering. A Taylor officer since 2005, Cpl. Edwards was named officer of the year in 2008 by the Police Officers Association of Michigan. He is survived by a wife and two young children.
Organizers of the fund-raiser say American Pie "is a proud supporter of the Taylor Police Department and we now have an opportunity to truly show this support and gratitude we have for these men and women who protect this great city of ours."
American Pie is an all-you-can-eat family buffet featuring pizza, pasta, salad, drinks and dessert -- all included for one price.
