COUNCILMAN PLANS ANOTHER CLEANUP EFFORT, FOCUSING NEAR WALMART
City Councilman Charley Johnson plans another volunteer cleanup event near the Walmart location on Saturday, August 2.
Johnson combined efforts with fellow Councilman Alex Garza previously, gathering volunteers and donations to paint over the graffiti on the freeway overpass on Monroe Street between Van Born and Ecorse.
Saturday's cleanup with focus on the road exiting Telegraph to the north of Walmart (the Ecorse Road exit). Johnson would also like to see some painting done in that area, and commented that while he thinks he has enough paint left over from the previous outing, the group will be in need of rollers and pans. Due to the vastness of the area involved, the group will need as many volunteers as possible, along with trash "pickers" and bags.
If possible, Johnson said he would like to clean the lot near Kroger on Monroe Street that same day.
Those interested in volunteering should meet at Original Phillips on Ecorse Road at 7:30 a.m. Saturday for a quick breakfast before going over to the cleanup site. The actual cleanup will begin at about 9 a.m.
