Dr. Shwedel to host a free day of dentistry with "Dentistry from the Heart"
Dr. Steven Shwedel is out to change lives by offering free smiles to anyone in need of dental work as he hosts the latest event for Dentistry from the Heart on Saturday, September 25.
Dr. Shwedel and his team of dentists and volunteers will help more than 100 people in need of dental work, treating patients in need of fillings, extractions and cleanings. Last year, Shwedel Dental helped 115 patients at 25650 Goddard Road -- and this year's event promises to be even larger.
Dr. Shwedel and team will treat patients 18 and older from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Dentistry from the Heart is a national non-profit organization with a simple mission: making people smile. The organization was founded in 2001 by Dr. Vincent Monticciolo in New Port Richey, Florida, to aid those in need, including the growing population of under-insured Americans. More than 100 million lack dental insurance, more than 29 percent of adults have untreated cavities and dental care isn't an option for many of the uninsured. To date, Dentisty from the Heart has helped more than 25,000 patients and provided more than $5.5 million in dental care.
"Now more than ever, I know there are people out there that need my services but have no means to afford them, whether they're out of a job or just don't have dental insurance," Dr. Shwedel said. "Dentistry from the Heart is my way of giving back to the community and helping people who are in need of dental work."
