The Information Center gala celebrates 35 years of service to Downriver area

The Information Center in Taylor will mark its 35th year of service to the Downriver communities and the surrounding area on October 14, 2010, with a Gala Celebration at Crystal Gardens Banquet Center in Southgate.

The Information Center has served the Downriver and surrounding communities since 1975, providing comprehensive information and referral services aimed at bringing people and community services together. The agency provides information and referral services for the public, assistance to unemployed workers, care management for seniors and disabled persons, support and training for their caregivers, and special services and supports that address human needs in the community such as emergency food vouchers, emergency and holiday time assistance.

“This year, the challenges and unmet needs of many area residents are great,” according to Executive Director Edward D’Angelo.

The 2010 Gala Celebration event will feature a silent auction, entertainment, dinner and a tradition of great fun. Funds raised from sponsorships, program book advertisements and the silent auction support the agency’s programs and services. Last year, more than $50,000 was raised at the gala.

The 2010 Gala Celebration will be “Black Tie,” a special event that occurs only once every five years. Sponsorship packages range from $250 to $10,000.  Individual tickets are available for $75. Potential sponsors and those interested in attending this year’s gala celebration are encouraged to contact Lori Stevenson or Nichole Elliott at The Information Center at (734) 282-7171. Information is also available online on the organization’s website, www.theinfocenter.info.

The Information Center is incorporated as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and is guided by a community-based board of directors. Contributions are tax-deductible.
