The City of Taylor has been awarded nearly $1,200 in the Macy's "Love Your Park" program, which was held during March.

In a letter from Kevin Hoen, vice president and store manager of Macy's Southland Center location, the city was award $1,181.97. Under the program, people could donate $1 or more to support Taylor's Heritage Park, and Macy's matched the donations, dollar for dollar, up to $250,000. The program ran until March 31.

Heritage Park supporters made their donations count through an aggressive program at Shwedel Dental on Goddard Road. Shwedel collected donations over several weeks and doubled the total before dropping it off at Macy's. Macy's will in turn doubled that, which means that Shwedel's program helped put $1,000 into Taylor's largest parkland.

For Spring 2014, Macy's partnered with the National Recreation and Park Association to help raise awareness and funds for local parks across the country. More than 650 local parks will benefit from the program nationwide.

More than 100,000 community parks dot the United States. The National Recreation and Parks Association is the national non-profit organization dedicated to the advancement of community parks, recreation and conservation. Community parks contribute to quality of life, providing public places to enjoy nature, be active and bring together families and neighborhoods. The parks also provide connections to the natural world.

The donation will be targeted for a yet-to-be-determined project in Heritage Park.
