MAN, FIREFIGHTER INJURED IN MONDAY CRASH: Car accident occurs during response to Southland Mall alarm
A 25-year-old Taylor man and a Taylor firefighter were injured Monday during a car crash that occurred while the fire department was responding to a fire alam at Southland Mall. Taylor police and fire responded to the crash at about 11:15 a.m.
The crash occurred at Pardee and Superior roads, when a Taylor Fire Department battalion chief was enroute to a commerical fire alarm at the mall.
The 58-year-old chief was driving a Jeep 4x4 with his emergency lights and sirens on and proceeded through a red light at southbound Pardee and Superior. The Taylor resident had proceeded eastbound on Superior at the green light and collided with the fire vehicle. The 25-year-old was transported to Oakwood Hospital in Dearborn with a suspected head injury and is in good condition. The chief was transported to Heritage Hospital in Taylor for minor injuries.
Two other vehicles were involved in the initial incident. The occupants of those vehicles did not sustain any injuries.
