MAYOR, OTHERS ATTEND FAN FAVORITES GRAND OPENING
Fan Favorites, a sports collectible shop that has moved into the Taylor Sportsplex, held its grand opening Saturday, April 5.
Attending from the City of Taylor were Mayor Rick Sollars, City Clerk Cindy Bower, City Treasurer Edward Bourassa and City Councilman Alex Garza.
Former Detroit Tiger pitcher Denny McLain was on hand to autograph items. McLain was a member of the 1968 World Championship team and is the last Major League Baseball pitcher to win 30 games in a season. McLain was 31-6 in 1968, when he claimed Most Valuable Player and Cy Young Award honors in the American League. McLain admitted that after gaining a lot of weight over the years, he’s now lost over 150 pounds.
Fan Favorites’ Owner Patty Fritz-Saenz and her staff were all smiles during the event and even offered homemade cupcakes to customers visiting the store. The store, located just off the main lobby on the north side of the building, is a sports collector’s dream, including autographed jerseys from the likes of Pavel Datsyuk, Matt Stafford and Nick Lidstrom all the way back to Bobby Hull. There are many unique footballs, baseballs, helmets of all sizes, boxing gloves and some really great artwork.
The Taylor Sportsplex is located at 13333 Telegraph Road at Superior Parkway.
