A Message from the Chief

As your new Chief of Police, I would like to welcome you to our website.  I am proud and honored to have been appointed to this important position for this great Department.  During my 18 year police career, I have never lost my enthusiasm for the job or my affection for this department and the men and women who are at the core.  In my opinion, there is no nobler profession than that of assuring the safety and security of the community.  I believe there is no finer law enforcement agency than the Taylor Police Department.  The history, initiative, talent and creativity that exist here inspire me.

As laws, technologies, and times change, so must Taylor flex with new law enforcement strategies and policies.  However, I have a fervent belief that as we progress technically and embrace new ideas that we shouldn't forget our priority is the prevention and reduction of crime and customer service to the residents and businesses of the city.  Community policy and crime prevention are familiar ideas that can be retrofitted using up-to-date technology.

My vision is to create a 5-year strategic plan that will provide for a professional police force that will address crime reduction, enhance technology, and increase customer service within the Police Department.  We will accomplish our vision by promoting accepted and proven professional law enforcement standards.

By listening to the community, we are able to better target our resources to be more effective in critical police services.

I am hopeful we can all be more invested in making our community safer.

The relationships that develop and the problem solving activities that occur, help to reduce crime and improve the standard of living in all our neighborhoods.

Lastly, I would like to thank my predecessor, Chief Dale Tamsen, who led our department through dark times, the loss of officers, police layoffs and budget shortfalls.  I believe we have turned the corner and there is no where to go but up.

Mary Sclabassi
