Millie Vessella, who hired in as janitorial service, cooked as a volunteer for the "Friends of the Ford Senior Center" and was extremely well-liked by those who frequent the William Ford Senior Activities Center, passed away this morning. She had been hospitalized with a terminal illness. 

She was 71.

Millie volunteered for the Wednesday socials at the center, ran the garage sales and the birthday party bashes.

Seniors at the center have already scheduled a memorial for Millie on Wednesday, April 23, at the Ford Center. It will begin at 1:30 p.m. and coffee and cake will be served afterward.

There is also a "Millie's Benefit Social" scheduled for Wednesday, May 7. It will be held from 1:30 to 3 p.m. at the Ford Center, which is located at 6750 Troy Street off of Ecorse. Tickets are $8 per person and must be purchased by Friday, May 2 at the front counter of the Ford Center.

The benefit social will include door prizes and raffles. Mostaccioli, salad, dessert and beverages will be served and a cake raffle will also be held.
