Relay for Life Captains Meeting
The year's first Team captain meeting for the Taylor Relay for Life is set for 7 p.m. March 18 at the William D. Ford Senior Activity Center, 6750 Troy, north of Ecorse Road and west of Telegraph.
This meeting is for teams that have already registered for the May 22-23 Relay at Heritage Park, teams that still need to register and prospective teams that need a little more info before they decide to register.
Relay for Life is the signature fund-raising event for the American Cancer Society. At the March 18 meeting, captains will get their teams registered if they have not already done so, receive details about online fund-raising, get pointers and information about team fund-raising and get updated details about event-wide fund-raisers.
The Taylor Relay takes place from 10 a.m. May 22 to 10 a.m. May 23. It requires teammates to take turns walking the complete 24 hours. he laps will have themes to keep the teams motivated and having fun. A special lap for survivors open the relay and twilight lap with luminaries to remember those who have passed away from cancer.
The Relay and the mini events raise money to support efforts for cancer awareness, low- and no-cost testing and other programs and research offered by the American Cancer Society. Last year’s Relay had 53 teams that raised $166,000. More than 100 cancer survivors participated in the survivors lap and had lunch with their caregivers. This year more is expected and all survivors, caregivers, families are invited to join the City of Taylor for this event.
