The Taylor Intermediate Boys 50-70 All-Star Team recently captured the state championship in Grand Rapids and are heading for regional play on Saturday (July 19) at Milwood Little League in Kalamazoo.

Taylor will play Valley Sports Little League from Louisville, Ky. Gametime is 3:30.

The team, coached by Brett Hall, Tom Wells Jr. and Lanny Hall Jr., dominated two sectional play-in games and the state tournament in route to their regional berth.

In seven games (two play-ins and five state tourney contests), Taylor scored 103 runs and allowed only 26. The team is hitting .593 as a unit. The pitching staff's ERA is 1.32 with Jacob Erickson leading the way with a 0.31 ERA and 47 strikeouts in only 18 innings pitched. Tommy Wells has a 1.49 ERA, with 29 K's against only four walks in 15 innings. 

Offensively, Austin Hall and Allen Woodward are leading the way with 17 hits each. Hall, the team's lead-off hitter, has 10 stolen bases and four homers. Woodward has 16 RBI. 

Taylor captured the state title with a 15-8 victory over Georgetown. The team hit five home runs, including two each from Hall and Erickson -- who both had grand slams. Woodward hit the longest home run of the tournament to deep center field.

The team earned its berth in the finals thanks to a 16-6 victory over Alma. Hall, Erickson, Woodward, Robby McCreary and Zack Biggs all hit homers in the victory.

In earlier games, Taylor beat Sault Area LL, 6-4, in its toughest game. Woodward was the difference with a two-run shot to center field.

Taylor beat Gaylord LL, 22-4, in its second game. Erickson, Wells and Woodward hit two home runs each, and McCreary and Bryan Richard added grand slams.

Taylor won its state tourney opener when it beat St. Clair, 13-3, behind two home runs each from San Giraud and Jacob Erickson.
