Tell Taylor officials what you think during Town Hall meeting on November 23

Taylor residents will be asked for their opinions on city services, programs and other hot topics during an open Town Hall at 6 p.m. Tuesday, November 23, at the William D. Ford Senior Activity Center.

All residents, business owners and elected officials are invited. The Town Hall will feature an interactive aspect that will allow participants to cast their vote on subjects as well as hear the latest about pension reform, the fiscal health of the city and other important issues.

The public also will have an opportunity to question Mayor Jeffrey P. Lamarand, other elected officials and department heads about any topic in the city.

“No topic is off limits,” Mayor Lamarand said. “We want to know what people are thinking and we want let them know what direction we’re taking.”

The Town Hall is an expanded version of Lamarand’s monthly Coffee with the Mayor, which invites residents to a variety of neighborhood restaurants and coffee shops in the city.

The Ford Senior Center was selected as the host site because it is a large facility and allows for a greater attendance. The center is located at 6750 Troy, west of Telegraph Road and north of Ecorse Road.

Mayor Lamarand said he felt it was important to provide such a venue to review the events of his administration’s first year in office. The Mayor and the current city officials were elected to four-year terms last November.

“If a resident has an important issue, we encourage him or her to bring it up during the Town Hall,” Mayor Lamarand said. “Other residents may have the same issue and we can talk about it and work toward getting it resolved, just like we do during Coffee with the Mayor. It’s an informal setting that allows dialogue, unlike the formal procedures of a City Council meeting.”

Refreshments will be provided by MediLodge-Taylor, which sponsors of events for seniors at the Ford Senior Center.

Transportation will be available for seniors interested in attending. To schedule a ride, call the center at (313) 291-7740.
