Texas Roadhouse to donate portion of August 16 food sales to Cpl. Edwards' family

The Taylor Texas Roadhouse restaurant will donate 10 percent of proceeds from food sales from 3 to 10 p.m. Monday, August 16, to the family of Taylor police Cpl. Matthew Edwards.

In addition, spouses of Taylor police officers and friends will bake items that will be sold, with proceeds benefiting the family.

Police officers will serve as guest wait staff, guest hosts and greeters.

The restaurant is located at 14660 Pardee Road in an outlot of the Taylor Meijer store.

Cpl. Edwards was shot and killed while on duty the morning of July 23 while responding to a reported breaking and entering. His assailant was shot by Cpl. Edwards’ partner and now faces six charges and a possible life prison sentence.

Cpl. Edwards joined the Taylor Police Department in 2005. He was police officer of the year in 2008.

He is survived by his wife and two young children.

The Taylor community has rallied to support the family. Donations can be made to the Cpl. Matthew Edwards Memorial Fund at PNC Bank, account 4244-507084.
