Gem, Mineral & Jewelry Show Nov. 11-12 at Sportsplex

The Midwest Faceters Guild will host its annual Gem, Mineral and Jewelry Show and Sale November 11-12 at the Taylor Sportsplex.

Hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. November 11 and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. November 12.  The Sportsplex is located at 13333 Telegraph Road, south of Northline Road.

The Midwest Faceters Guild is a nonprofit club dedicated to the education and promotion of interest in the hobby of cutting gemstones. A facet is a flat polished surface cut on a gemstone. Faceting is the act of cutting and polishing the face of the gem.

The show, which is open to the public, will feature dozens of the best faceters in the world. There will be demonstrations on how to make gemstones, beading, chain making, lapidary arts, wire wrapping, silversmithing and other techniques.

There will be many exhibits, including a “kids area” in which children can touch and examine rocks and minerals, identify different minerals, make a beaded bracelet and play games. Kids will receive a free Petoskey stone, copper sample or tumbled stone, plus literature on rocks. There will be rock candy on sale and a crafts sales table.

Admission is $3.
