Talented dancers, musicians will highlight The Big Band Ball in Taylor

Special guest dancers and outstanding musicians will be the main attraction of the first “Big Band Ball,” set for Saturday, February 17, at Lakes of Taylor Golf Club, 25505 Northline Road.

Andrezi and Adriana Przybyl, a twin brother and sister dance team from Poland, will perform two dances. Together, they have participated in more than 200 dance competitions, winning every U.S. Rising Star competition since 2005.

In addition, Tonia DeLiz, a professional ballroom and Latin dancer who has been performing and instructing for more than 20 years, will dance with her partner, Dan Sklar. DeLiz, who owns DeLiz DanceSport in Wyandotte, is a past instructor and manager for Arthur Murray’s and is one of the most versatile dancers.

The Big Band Ball will provide participants with an evening of fun and entertainment. Doors open at 5 p.m. and hors d'oeuvres will be served from 6 to 7 p.m. Dancing to big band music performed by the Monroe Big Band is set for 7 to 11 p.m. Entertainer Kevin Sands will serve as host.

The night includes a silent auction featuring jazz-related items, from 5 to 9 p.m., and a performance by the Harry S Truman High School Jazz Band from 5 to 7 p.m. Tickets are $45 per person or $75 a couple.

"The Big Band Ball" is a benefit for the non-profit Taylor Friends of the Arts. The ball is presented by the Taylor Cultural Arts Commission, which is active in promoting the arts.

"We are very excited to be hosting what we believe will become an annual event in the City of Taylor,” said Debra Hamilton of the City of Taylor Department of Golf, Parks and Recreation and a member of the commission. “Our goal as a commission is to bring more cultural opportunities to our community, which inevitably enhances the quality of life for our residents. Funds raised from this event will be used for a new scholarship program that we will be offering. Graduating seniors who reside in the City of Taylor and are going into any field related to the arts can apply."
