Ballet Americana presents Spring performance April 21
The Spring Ballet Performance of Taylor-based Ballet Americana is scheduled for 7 p.m. Saturday, April 21, at the Flat Rock Community Auditorium, 28100 Aspen Drive.
Ballet Americana – a Mid-States Regional Dance America Company – will present “Swan Lake Selections,” “Salute” and “Sunset Gathering.”
Tickets, which are $12, can be charged by telephone at (734) 374-3904 from 5 to 8 o’clock evenings or they can be purchased at the door.
The day after the performance, the company will leave for Pittsburgh to attend and participate in the Regional Dance America Festival. The new ballet, “Sunset Gathering,” was chosen by adjudication to be performed at this year’s festival, according to Director Joy Squire.
Ballet Americana is the only company in Wayne County with membership in Regional Dance America. Squire said that membership and the company’s recent "Nutcracker" performance with the Detroit Symphony Civic Orchestra (which included guest artists from New York City Ballet) have been real milestones for Ballet Americana.
“We now are in a unique position to offer local ballet students the opportunity to participate in professionally adjudicated ballet festivals, take class with nationally renowned guest choreographers and instructors and perform with top ballet professionals in the dance world,” she said.
Ballet Americana and the Taylor Dance Program operate out of the Taylor Recreation Center at 22805 Goddard Road. For more information, visit Ballet Americana’s web site, www.balletamericana.org.
