Sixth annual Masco Art in the Park Festival June 9-10 at Heritage Park
The sixth annual Masco Art in the Park Festival, scheduled for June 9-10 at Heritage Park, continues to impress as a venue for the visual and performing arts.
Show hours are 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, June 9, and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, June 10. Heritage Park is located at 12111 Pardee Road, between Goddard and Northline roads.
The event features free parking, free admission and free entertainment, which continues to 11 p.m. Saturday and through the end of the festival on Sunday.
The two-day event features a juried art fair with more than 80 artists, a student art exhibit and quality crafters selling a wide variety of their work in a beautiful park setting. There is a diverse range of art from oil paintings to sculptures to beautiful textiles. The fine art gallery in the Heritage Park Activity Building showcases the talents of Southeastern Michigan’s most acclaimed artists.
Saturday’s entertainment on the Main Stage includes the Troubadours from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Superball from 3 to 6 p.m. and Men in Black from 7 to 11 p.m.
The Troubadours play cool sounds of world beat, which is a jazz and Latin mix. Superball and Men in Black both include local artists playing top 40 selections, keeping visitors dancing throughout the night.
On Sunday, the Main Stage features Downriver’s most talented kids. The children’s baking competition takes place from 11 a.m. to noon. The children’s talent competition will take place from 12:30 to 4 p.m., and Taylor Ballet Americana along with the Taylor Dance Program will perform from 4 to 5 p.m.
Cruisin’ for the Arts, a classic car show, returns with the Taylor Cultural Arts Commission and Friends of the Arts hosting this popular event. The show is scheduled for 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday in Heritage Park.
The cruise portion of the show begins at the Taylor Sportsplex, 13333 Telegraph Road. Cars cruise north on Telegraph to Goddard Road, east on Goddard through Midtown Taylor to Allen Road, south on Allen Road to Northline Road, and west on Northline to Racho Road, where they turn right into Heritage Park.
The vehicles will park in the concert field area of the park. An awards ceremony takes place at 4 p.m. All proceeds benefit the Taylor Friends of the Arts, a 501c3 promoting cultural arts in the City of Taylor.
Masco Corporation, a global Fortune 200 home improvement products company with world headquarters in Taylor, is the title sponsor of the festival.
