WCCCD's 'Empty Bowls Project' helps feed the hungry

Wayne County Community College District’s (WCCCD) Continuing Education Division presents "Empty Bowls, an international effort to feed the hungry, from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, December 5, 2007, at the Taylor Veterans of Foreign Wars Hall, 11590 Pine Street, Taylor.

The event is open to the general public. Participants will have an opportunity to purchase a ceramic bowl and then be served a simple meal of soup and bread. This serves as a reminder that there are millions of people around the world at any given time sitting in front of an empty bowl unable to afford food.

A minimum donation of $10 (tax deductible through Empty Bowls) will allow participants to receive dinner and a handmade clay bowl. One hundred percent of the money collected is donated to a variety of charities that support food banks, soup kitchens and other organizations. Maryhaven, The Salvation Army, First Step, Starfish Charities and many other charitable groups benefit.
