Taylor La-Z-Boy Christmas display is a salute to U.S. military
One of the most attractive, interesting and creative drop-off points for the U.S. Marine Corps' Toys for Tots program this holiday season was at the La-Z-Boy Furniture Galleries at 22919 Eureka Road in Taylor.
The display was described as "Currier and Ives with a military twist," by creator Linda Zochowski, an interior designer who owns Added Class Interiors in Brownstown Township.
"It all started with a Currier and Ives home, heartfelt theme with a military twist honoring the men and women serving our country far from family and friends," Zochowski said.
The tree is dedicated to all branches of the service, including Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard and Reserves, in addition to other servicemen, servicewomen and civilians who have risked their lives for the future of others. Zochowski visited a local recruiting office, which was pleased to provide posters, signs and a life-size cardboard Army Reservist.
Store Manager Denise Morrow and Assistant Manager Frieda Profitt said La-Z-Boy stores were challenged to use store accessories as part of the display, be inventive and creative and work within a budget.
Employees popped popcorn and strung it together with cranberries. They made Christmas stockings and hung them on a fireplace mantle. The Christmas trees includes little soldiers on yellow ribbons. hung stockings on a fireplace mantle. The fireplace itself is a sign that "the home fire is burning" as an inspiration to servicemen and servicewomen.
"It's something really, really simple that was turned into something very welcoming," Morrow said. "Linda's idea was that it doesn't take a lot of money to show your support for our troops."
Zochowski said La-Z-Boy of Taylor "salutes you for your efforts and we have you in our thoughts and prayers, but mostly, you have our respect for stepping up to the challenges of fighting for freedom."
Even though the collection time has passed, the store display continues for anyone that wants to stop by and see it.
