Voters approve millage renewal in Taylor School District

Voters in the Taylor School District approved an 18-mill non-homestead property tax renewal on Tuesday, January 15. The vote was 4,672-3,479. The tax is levied on business and rental property. It has been in place since 1994, when voters passed Proposal A and changed the way school districts are funded in Michigan. It is not a tax on primary residences. Under state law,m the non-homestead millage has to be renewed every five years. The millage currently generates about $16 million of the district's budget.
