Sick of gas prices? This will “bowl you over”

Local bowling centers -- including Skore Lanes in Taylor -- are taking a step to relieve the pressure brought on by rising gas prices and giving the public a chance to win gas cards while taking out frustrations on the pins and having a fun time.

On Saturday, June 14, all Community Bowling Centers will host “Sick of Gas Prices Bowling Day.” Participants will be able to enjoy America’s most popular recreation activity locally (not using much gas to participate) for just 99 cents per game.

At the same time, they will have a chance each hour to win $25 gasoline gift cards on “Gasoline Alley” for just $1 per attempt.  Special gold pins, representing the cost of today’s gas prices, will be the target and anyone who knocks down all the pins (without the head pin) with a single roll will win a gift card.

“Since we don’t have much control over this situation – the rising gas prices - we need an outlet for the tension that has resulted,” said Roger Philipi, director of operations and guest happiness for Community Bowling Centers. “We may not be able to do anything about the cost of gas, but we can make the best of a bad situation, have some fun and win something that will help us with the problem at hand.”

The public also will have the opportunity to sign a statement objecting to the escalating price of gas, which will be presented the following week to our state legislators.

“Let’s let our voices be heard about the crash of the pins," Philipi said. “Let’s be sure our representatives know that we are united in concern over this situation and want something done to correct it."
