Building Department

The Building department oversees and approves all residential, commercial, and industrial construction within the City. The department is committed to protect, maintain and improve health, safety, welfare and the quality of life for residents and businesses located in our city through the enforcement of the State of Michigan construction Codes and local ordinances established for those purposes. Applications, requirements and inspections are processed daily. Garage Sale permits are available at the Building department for the cost of $10. Applications may be picked up at the Building department counter.

This department enforces property maintenance in order to ensure compliance in residential, commercial, and industrial development.

The Apartment Rental Inspection department was developed in order to oversee the maintenance of the City's rental housing stock. Apartments are inspected every three years. The maintenance and improvement of the rental stock is a goal of the department.
