Atlas Oil named to exclusive Inc. 5,000 List
Atlas Oil Company is among the fastest-growing private companies in the nation for the second year running.
Inc. magazine just published its fourth annual Inc. 5,000 List and Atlas increased its position by 278 spots to 4,146th overall. In Michigan, where Atlas is headquartered, the company is ranked at the list for 2009 revenues.
"The leaders of the companies on this year's Inc. 5,000 figured out how to grow their business during the longest recession since the Great Depression," said Inc. President Bob LaPointe. The 2010 Inc. 5,000 showcases a particularly hardy group of entrepreneurs."
Sam Simon, CEO and president of Atlas Oil Co., said "Atlas continues to grow because we've never taken our eyes off our customers' needs. Atlas employees are really what set us apart. They are passionate and steadfastly focused on providing our customers the best service in the fuel distribution industry."
This year also marks Atlas Oil Company's 25th anniversary. A celebration was held recently at Taylor's Atlas Park, a facility funded by Atlas Oil and located across the street from Atlas' headquarters on Ecorse Road.
Over the years, Atlas has grown from a one-truck fuel distributor to an integrated supplier of petroleum and renewable fuels. Representing six national brands, the company delivers fuel to nearly 400 gas stations around the Midwest in Michigan, Indiana, Illinois and Ohio. Atlas also delivers hundreds of millions of gallons of bulk fuel each year to commercial fleets, construction companies, mines, utilities and government agencies in 22 states.
To better meet the growing needs and sophistication of its diverse customer base, Atlas recently established a supply and trading office in Houston, Texas -- the liquid fuels epicenter of the United States.
Atlas is a premier national petroleum products distributor and services provider. With headquarters in Taylor, Michigan, Atlas maintains operations centers in Michigan, Indiana, Texas and Ohio and satellite offices in Minneapolis, Minnesota; Scottsdale, Arizona; Niles, Michigan; Hammond, Indiana; and Albuquerque, New Mexico.
The company was named one of Metro Detroit's "101 Best and Brightest Companies to Work For" in 2010 and was named a "top workplace" in both 2008 and 2009 by The Detroit Free Press.
