Benefit for Lt. Kromer's family set for October 9 at Meadow Bar in Taylor

The family of Taylor Auxiliary Police Lt. Dan Kromer will benefit from an event organized by his former comrades on Saturday, October 9, at Meadow Bar, 25018 Ecorse Road, Taylor.

Free dinner will be served starting at 4 p.m. The meal will include spaghetti, hot dogs and side dishes provided by the staff at Meadow Bar.

The evening will include a silent auction of items donated by beer and pop companies and the Taylor Meadows Golf Club, according to Meadow Bar owner Mike Mathews. Retired auxiliary member Charles Owens said memorial T-shirts and window decals will be on sale. There will be a 50/50 raffle as well.

Donations will be accepted with all proceeds benefiting the family of Lt. Kromer, who was killed the evening of September 7 while assisting motorists on the I-94 freeway. Nino Edward Delpiano, a 40-year-old Dearborn man, faces six charges, including second-degree murder.

Lt. Kromer had served on the all-volunteer police unit for 20 years and was an officer of the year earlier in his career.

“We know a lot of the officers that are on the reserves, including Dan,” Mathews said. “They come in here. This was something we wanted to do.”

Meadow Bar holds an annual fund-raiser for the Taylor police canine unit as well.
