Public Notice: Company files application for Romulus waste well

Public Notice

Receipt of an operating license application for a hazardous waste management facility

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources and Environment (DNRE), Environmental Resource Management Division (ERMD), has given notice that on October 1, 2010, Environmental Geo Technologies (EGT) submitted a hazardous waste management facility operating license application for the facility located at 28470 Citrin Drive, Romulus, Michigan.

On December 27, 2005, the former owner of the facility was issued a hazardous waste management facility operating license for its aboveground hazardous waste management operations pursuant to Part 111, Hazardous Waste Management, of the Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Act, 1994 PA 451, as amended. The facility has not been in operation since November 2006.

EGT wishes to operate a commercial aboveground hazardous waste tank and container storage and tank treatment facility located at the above-referenced address. The facility would accept hazardous wastewaters from industry. The wastewaters are hazardous because they are corrosive (acidic or basic) or because they contain toxic contaminants (heavy metals or chemicals). The wastewaters would be treated in tanks to reduce the concentrations of contaminants and then they would be injected into deep wells. Yaser Mahmoud and Rick Powals are the contact persons for EGS. They may be reached by telephone at (734) 946-1000.

DNRE staff is reviewing EGT's application to determine if it is complete and technically satisfies all state and federal hazardous waste facility licensing requirements. If the application is found to be incomplete, the missing information will be requested from the applicant. As soon as the missing information is provided, the DNRE will proceed with the technical review of the application. Based upon this review, the DNRE will proceed with the technical review of the application. Based upon this review, the DNRE will propose to issue or deny the operating license. Prior to a final determination, a public hearing will be held. A notice will appear approximately 30 days prior to a public hearing date.

EGT's application is available for inspection at the DNRE, ERMD, located on the Atrium North Level of Constitution Hall, 525 West Allegan Street, Lansing, Michigan 48933 (contact Ronda L.
