Junior League World Series returning to Taylor for 31st year
The World Series for the best teams of 13- and 14-year-old baseball players will return to Taylor for the 31st straight year.
The Junior League World Series will be played August 14-20 on World Series Field at Taylor’s Heritage Park. The defending champion is the Chung-Ching Junior Little League from Taipei City, Chinese Taipei.
The dates and sites for the eight Word Series governed by Little League International were approved by the Board of Directors and announced by Stephen D. Keener, president and chief executive officer of Little League Baseball and Softball.
Junior League World Series founder and Director Greg Bzura said he was pleased and proud to receive the official word from Little League International.
“Great! Here we go again,” Bzura said. “We’ve got a shot at 31 now. The 2010 World Series was our greatest year ever. In 2011, we expect to be better yet.”
At 31 years old, the Junior League World Series is ranked second among the eight World Series tournament in terms of consecutive years held at the same location. In fact, Taylor is the only place the series has been played.
Only the Little League World Series for 12-year-olds has been held at the same place longer. The Little League series has been around for 65 seasons – 53 in South Williamsport, Pennsylvania.
The 2011 Little League series actually will expand by a day, beginning August 18 and concluding Labor Day, August 28.
The 2011 World Series will be the 10th straight year that the international tournaments will be placed in the same locations.
Michigan is the only state that hosts two World Series. The Big League Softball World Series for girls ages 14 to 18 will be held August 4-10 in Kalamazoo, which has hosted the tournament for 18 seasons. Last year, a Michigan team from Grand Rapids won the world championship.
