Covered Bridge

Covered BridgeThe first American bridge patent was issued on January 21, 1797 for a covered bridge. It was important to cover and completely board up the sides so that animals would think they were approaching a barn and would not be frightened by the water. In the winter, snow was layered inside the bridge so sleighs could cross.

Taylor had many creeks and streams that made covered bridges necessary for transportation in the days before Taylor was a city.
