Transfer Station & Compost Facility
Please note: The Transfer & Compost Facility is only available by telephone Mondays through Fridays. Call the general City Hall number at (734) 287-6550 opt. 8 during regular business hours and you will be directed to the Department of Public Works. All Saturdays, no telephone calls are accepted at the compost facility.
HOURS OF OPERATION: Monday-Saturday 8 a.m.-2:45 p.m.
The Taylor Hills Compost Facility provides a high-quality soil amendment product for landscapers and gardeners. This quality product is free for residents of Taylor who load materials themselves. For residents who require assistance, there is a loading fee plus a per yard fee. Please see the Transfer & Compost Center fees for services and current pricing for residents, non-residents, commercial and contractor rates. This is an excellent opportunity to help the environment by taking yard waste that was typically landfilled and converting it into a useful, viable product. The facility is located between Pennsylvania and Eureka roads, east of Telegraph Road.
Free Rubbish Drop-Off
Each homeowner in the City of Taylor is entitled to two free annual dump visits (up to 500 pounds per dump) at the Taylor Hills Transfer Station/Compost Site. Non-homestead properties (rentals) are not part of this free program. This program changed due to the success of Taylor’s expansion of curbside services in 2016.
To take advantage of this free dumping, residents must show proof of residency to the gate attendant upon arrival at the Transfer Station. Residents are no longer required to obtain a physical pass. They are now processed electronically. To show proof of residency a photo ID or tax bill/deed with proof of identification is acceptable.
Residents are asked to use compost bags (brown paper bags) along with compost cans for compost only (i.e. grass clippings, leaves). No bags or cans will be accepted with rubbish or debris mixed with compost. This process will ensure the quality of finished compost available to Taylor residents.
Non-acceptable items include hazardous waste (look for caution signs on items like danger, warning or poison), concrete, brick, shingles, tires, paint, car parts, boats, and trailers. The City of Taylor maintains the right to refuse any loads or customers at the site.
