COVID-19 UPDATE: Florida judge slaps down in-person school reopening demand

COVID-19

From the Wayne County Report for August 26, 2020: A Florida judge on Monday blocked the state’s requirement that all brick-and-mortar public schools must offer in-class education by August 31.

In his temporary injunction, Judge Charles Dodson said Florida Education Commissioner Richard Corcoran "arbitrarily prioritized reopening schools statewide in August over safety, and over the advice of health experts and that all districts complied in order to avoid loss of state funding."  The ruling was a win for teacher unions. That and more in today’s report.

In the countywide COVID-19 data for August 25, 2020, Taylor recorded six new cases, upping its overall total to 945. There were no new deaths; that total remains at 73.
