City Clerk, Cynthia A. Bower, was first elected to serve the residents of Taylor in November 2013. Clerk Bower is a Certified Michigan Municipal Clerk (CMMC
), Secretary of the Association of Wayne County Clerks and volunteers for various organizations. She earned her CMMC
through various educational opportunities provided by the Michigan Association of Municipal Clerks.
She began her career with the City of Taylor at the age of 16 as a student co-op. She had worked in various departments until her resignation in 2012, at which time she was appointed City Clerk due to the retirement of former City Clerk Mary Ann Reilly.
Since becoming City Clerk in 2012 the Clerk has successfully obtained grants to implement Electronic Poll Book laptops and handicap accessible voting booths at the precincts; streamlined operations of the Absentee Counting Board to decrease the time spent processing ballots; created a working relationship with the local high schools to hire students as Election Inspectors; re-opened the Clerk’s Office on Thursdays (had been closed since 2011); transferred death records over to the Electronic Death Records System; created Cemetery Clean-up Day opportunities to enhance the appearance of the City’s locally owned cemeteries; and worked closely with all departments citywide to serve the citizens of Taylor at an optimum level.
She has been a member of St. Constance Church for 33 years. She is also a member of the Democratic Club of Taylor. She has been married to her husband Gary for 20 years and has three daughters, Katelyn, Megan and Carolyn.
Clerk Bower attended and graduated from Taylor Public Schools.
